KAI & Self-Discovery: A Business Consultant’s Experiences

How the story began from worker…

While working in the training department of a large, global company, a worker was exposed to KAI through her manager. The manager had already heard of KAI and was intrigued, but he was not certified himself. Because of the worker’s background in psychology, the manager encouraged her to get certified in KAI, as he thought it would benefit the company. And it did!

This was the beginning of a new journey in teaching others about self-discovery.

The worker left to set up her own consulting business, working with small to mid-size businesses and individuals as a consultant. She successfully helps with organizational development and individual development. Regardless of the size of the business, her ultimate goal is to teach self-discovery.

While she uses many different self-discovery tools in her practices, she says that KAI is a vital tool in her toolbelt.



KAI – the route to effective management and team working

Perhaps the most common and useful part of KAI in her helping her clients to success is through teaching:

  • Managers how to gain traction with their team
  • People about their untapped strengths
  • Coping mechanisms to help smooth working
  • Individuals to become good team members

The path to successful insight

To do this, she has a very specific process she follows:

  • The clients take the inventory
  • Clients watch a pre-recorded class about KAI
  • She gives private, individualized feedback to each person

From there, the delivery of the results becomes a conversation around the class and the client’s perceptions. This starts with a simple question: “After watching the class, do you think you fall more adaptive or more innovative?”

How do I fit in… it’s all relative!

The conversation then moves to understanding how innovation and adaption is relative to other team members. For example, you can have a KAI score of 90, which is below the mid-point of the scale, and so ‘adaptive’, but if everyone in the room has a score of less than 70, you become the ‘most innovative’ person there!

So, our consultant teaches that comparison is all relative – with people being ‘more innovative’ or ‘more adaptive’ than others.
